What is DTS:X?
DTS:X is the next generation audio codec from DTS that leverages object-based audio to enable new audio experiences in immersion and interactivity.
And Onkyo Network A/V Receivers are at the forefront.
The most lifelike audio
DTS:X places sound where it would occur naturally in space, creating the most lifelike, multi-dimensional audio experience ever.
Experience Sound Unbound
Free from channel restrictions, sound can be placed and moved to where you would hear it in the real world.
DTS:X makes sound move
Because DTS:X doesn't require any specific speaker layout, you can arrange your home theater system however you want it.
With DTS:X you’re in control of your listening experience. That hard-to-hear line in a movie can be lifted out of the background sounds for a more personal entertainment experience.

Object-Based Audio Surround Sound Bar System
From Sonic Immersion to Interactivity
An audio object is the combination of the waveform where captures the audio, and metadata which represents the spatial location in which the object should be heard.
Audio objects free content from specific speaker layouts for optimal listening.
This means the same DTS:X content will sound great whether it's rendered on stereo or a fully immersive surround sound system.
Works With All DTS Content
DTS will playback all DTS formats including DTS Digital Surround and DTS-HD Master Audio.
DTS:X bitstreams are backward-compatible with older DTS AVRs and sound great.
DTS has a 93% market-share of the top 100 Blu-ray titles in 2014, and is expected to continue the trend into the next generation of Blu-ray.
Flexible Home Theater Layouts
DTS:X is about unbound sound. It will work on any speaker layout, including up-firing speakers, but these are not required.
DTS:X is fully capable of working with any and all speaker layouts.
DTS:X brings new levels of immersion and interactivity to the listening experience.
Unlike channel-based audio, you will be able to personalize your audio experience. For example lift the dialog out from the background sounds when you want clarity and experience a more personal entertainment experience.
One of the biggest benefits of DTS:X is the ability to render audio perfectly across any type of speaker layout, from hundreds of speakers down to headphones. Because DTS:X doesn't require any specific speaker layout, you can arrange your home theater system however you want.
Adapts to Your Setup
For a fully immersive experience, we recommend a speaker layout that includes height to experience a whole new level of immersion.
DTS:X is a departure from channel-based audio by leveraging audio objects. Object audio enables optimized playback on any speaker layout, with any number of speakers from two to two hundred.
DTS:X supports lossless encoding, preserving fidelity to deliver a pristine listening experience.
In situations where bit-rate is of high concern, DTS:X can also operate in a high-quality lossy mode.
Audio quality is the number one concern at DTS.
DTS:X is based on discrete, lossless coding of audio objects.
Be prepared - the improved immersion and heightened realism of DTS:X creates the most lifelike, multi-dimensional audio
experience ever, making horror movies scarier, comedies more laugh-out-loud, and car chase scenes even more intense.
How Many Channels Does DTS:X support?
Current DTS:X supports up to 11.1 or 11.2 channels (7.1.4 or 7.2.4 channels) setups.
DTS:X content is custom-rendered to any channel layout you choose during the Onkyo setup process. This means DTS:X content will always sound its best on an Onkyo AVR.
Does It Work With What I Have Now?
Take your entertainment to new heights! With our new spatial remapping engine, Neural:X™, you can enjoy an immersive audio experience with virtually any speaker layout.
It is built in to DTS:X to provide upmix of Neural:X-encoded and non-encoded (PCM) data.
In DTS:X for AVRs and Sound Bars, Neural:X can produce up to 11.x channels.
DTS:X builds upon the existing DTS-HD Master Audio decoder to provide backward compatibility with existing DTS bitstreams and speaker layouts.
In short, all features of DTS-HD Master Audio are supported.
Neural:X will adapt older DTS content to the consumers chosen speaker layout.
